Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have
any questions about our products or services? Please email or
call us if you do. We would love to hear from you and help if
we can. Below are some general questions and answers that we feel
might be useful to you.
- How
much does the spineboard weigh?
It weighs approx. 28 lbs.
- How
long will the spineboard last?
We are estimating that the spineboard will last 15 years if maintained properly. Velcro and straps will last for 3-5 years depending upon conditions.
- Does
the spineboard float?
The spineboard has positive boancy and with most victims, it will maintain them at the surface of the water.
- What
is the spineboard made of?
The spineboard is made of a marine grade polymer.
- Do
I need a beavertail? Hard or soft?
Some facilities use beavertails in their rescue procedures and some do not. You should consult your procedures. Hard beavertails are used on flush deck gutters. If you have a raised edge, a soft beavertail is more versatile.
- What
is a transport strap, and do I need one?
Transport straps add support to the VBlock head immobilizer. More facilities are using transport straps if they use their spineboard to transport the victim to a medical facility. They are not necessary for the use of the VBlocks.
- We
have a large facility. Should we have a child spineboard?
An adult spineboard was designed for adults, but can be used for children as well. If you are a facility that has a large number of child patrons, (i.e. Wave pool, zero entry pool, recreation center with slides) a child spineboard would be a good option.
- How
should I maintain the spineboard?
-Hang the spineboard when not in use. Most damage occurs when spineboards fall on themselves or the pool deck.
-After use, hose off the spineboard with fresh water and hang to dry.
-Spineboards should be included in your maintenance checklist. When you check your first-aid kit and your oxygen tanks, you should check your spineboard.
-Check Velcro, staples, rivets, straps, runners and overall condition of the spineboard periodically.
